Through the study of nutrition, food preparation, and consumer awareness, students develop the ability to maintain healthy lifestyles, manage resources responsibly and make thoughtful choices that impact themselves, their families and the wider community. The FCE curriculum adopts student-centred and inquiry-based learning approaches to develop students’ critical thinking, self-management and responsible decision-making skills. Lessons integrate digital platforms such as the Student Learning Space and Google Classroom, where students engage in activities like online food journals, reflection tasks and collaborative discussions to build greater awareness of their eating habits and lifestyle choices. Students gain hands-on culinary experience and learn practical food preparation skills while exploring the science of nutrition and health. They are also encouraged to examine contemporary food issues such as balanced diets, diet-related diseases, food sustainability and responsible consumption. Through these learning experiences, students become more mindful of how their food choices affect their health and the environment. In addition, students are exposed to the rich diversity of food cultures in Singapore and around the world. Food & Consumer Education (FCE) equips students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to make informed food, health and consumer decisions in today’s rapidly changing world.
