The CCHMS NCC (Land) unit is one of the premier CCAs in Chung Cheng High School (Main), renowned for its many outstanding achievements since its inception. We pride ourselves as the elite Uniform Group in CCHMS and we constantly strive to develop resourceful, responsible, resilient, inspiring leaders and committed citizens through fun and challenging military-related activities. We have been performing well and have achieved the Gold Unit Award in the Best Unit Competition for 14 consecutive years from 2001 to 2014. In 2011, the CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit was proud to achieve the CM Philips award.

During their 4 years in NCC, cadets are taught basic military knowledge like arms and foot drill, map reading and orienteering skills, weapons handling using SAR21 rifles, general military knowledge (GMK) and individual field crafts (IFC). There will also be opportunities for interested cadets to sign up for International Cadet Exchange Programmes (ICEP) to visit countries like Australia, Brunei, India,  Germany, Malaysia , New Zealand, Thailand, UK and USA. This year, one of our cadets, Audric Leong visited Exercise Panzer strike in Bergen Germany.  According to Audric, this training visit was definitely an eye opener and it demonstrated Singapore’s commitment to defence and showed the importance of diplomacy and the good bilateral relationship between Singapore and Germany.

The CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit believes in blending tough physical training with character building to nurture loyal leaders and mould cadets holistically, be it physically, mentally or academically. During the school terms, CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit conducts training on Wednesdays and Fridays (3.15pm to 6.15pm on both days).  Training typically consists of physical training sessions, Taekwondo, foot drill session and a wide range of recreational activities such as soccer, basketball, captain’s ball, tele-matches, just to name a few.

Some of the Annual Competitions the CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit participates in are the Freestyle Drill (FSD) Competition, the NCC Mini League, Shooting Competition, the Orienteering Competition, the National Education Gaming Championship and the National Schools’ Taekwondo (TKD) Championships. This year, the unit achieved 2nd placing in the East District FSD Finals and obtained 1Gold and 3 Bronzes in the National Schools TKD Championships.

Occasionally, many other interesting activities are also organised for the cadets. These include Camps, Heritage Trails, visits to Pulau Ubin and even Overseas Adventure Trips. The opportunities for learning at CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit extend far beyond Goodman Road as cadets take on experiential challenges that build resilience, collaboration and leadership.  Over the past 15 years, the CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit has trekked through Endau Rompin in Taman Negara, climbed Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, caved through Gua Tempurung in Ipoh, rafted on Kampar river in Gopeng and on the Progro river in Yogyakarta, kayaked across Lake Kenyir in Terengganu, cycled around Hue, basket boated along the Hoi An river and camped overnight in the Dalat Highlands in Vietnam. Our cadets develop confidence in their physical abilities and emotional resilience to withstand difficult situations. Cadets not only enjoy these trips, but are often surprised to find that they possess the determination, adaptability and teamwork to rise to the challenges faced.

The CCHMS NCC (Land) Unit will continue to strive for excellence and uphold the good work of our alumni.
