Objectives

  • spirit of excellence through skills and attitude
  • to be disciplined and self-motivated in the Band to work towards good rehearsals and performances
  • developing a passion and enthusiasm for music

Chung Cheng High School (Main) Concert Band has grown in strength over the years and comprises almost 90 band members from Secondary 1 – 4. The band teachers-in-charge, conductors and student leaders have made the musical and character development of band members a focal point in charting the band’s future.

The band is under the tutelage of Ms Sia Swee Suan, an experienced conductor in the Band scene, who has over 20 years of band teaching experience. She is also currently teaching Tanjong Katong Girls’ School, Cedar Girls’ School and St. Nicholas Girls’ Secondary School. Under her baton, CCHMS Concert Band has soared and reached new levels of excellence in performance and showmanship.

In 2014, the Band competed in the 5th National Band Competition (Division 3 category) and clinched the most coveted Gold with Distinction award.  Also in the same year, the Band participated in the London College of Music (Ensemble, Level 2) examination and was awarded the Distinction grade.

In 2015, CCHMS Concert Band performed at the  SYF Arts Presentation and obtained the Certificate of Distinction for the first time after many year.

Apart from competitions, the band is also an active contributor to the community at large. We have been participating yearly in National Day performances for the residents of Mountbatten and Dakota. The band also had the opportunity to perform the music for the march past, school song and national anthem during the school’s SG 50 parade and celebration.
