Physical Education (PE) at CCHMS seeks to develop our students’ psychomotor and game skills, build good fitness foundation, inculcate healthy practices, and equip them with knowledge, awareness and a positive attitude to pursue and enjoy a life-long physically active and healthy lifestyles in and beyond the confines of school.
Approaches / Pedagogy
The Department aligns itscurriculum to the new PE Syllabus 2014 and seeks to achieve the expected learning outcomes through a mix-model approach to facilitate students’ learning. We adopted the Movement Education Model to include Wushu and Social Dance in our curriculum, as well as the Games Concept Approach to teach games skills and concepts. Sports Education Model is also used in games like Softball, where students take up active roles while learning and playing the game. Character and values are best learnt using the Experiential Learning Approach, through small-sided games during PE lessons and intra-school competition during Annual Inter-class Games, while Cooperative Learning and teamwork is emphasised during Outdoor Education modules. In alignment with the school’s vision, we have also included a bi-cultural aspect in our Sports Education Programme (SEP), where students learn a Chinese traditional sport (Wushu), an alternative sport (Inline skating), and even the funky Disco dance!
